About
Beven Livingston joined the Department of Clinical and Applied Movement Sciences as an Assistant Professor in the August of 2008. She received a B.A. in Biology from the Transylvania University (1982), a B.H.S. in Physical Therapy from the University of Kentucky (1986), a M.S. in Kinesiology and Health Promotions (Biomechanics) from the University of Kentucky (1998), and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience (Proprioception in Motor Control of the Upper Limb) from Emory University (2007). She worked as a clinician for twelve years at the Lexington Clinic Sports Medicine Center as a physical therapist and an athletic trainer. She served as a PT/ATC for the United States Fed Cup team for thirteen years and worked the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, providing therapy and training services for the U.S. tennis team. Dr. Livingston currently teaches Gross Anatomy (PHT 6110C), Kinesiology (PHT 6122C), Neuroscience I: Clinical Neuroanatomy and Physiology (PHT 6161C) and Clinical Inquiry I (PHT 6606C). Her research interests include: 1) quantifying the mechanical properties of the upper extremity musculoskeletal system, 2) studying the role of muscle stiffness regulation in the motor coordination of the upper extremity for patients with various dysfunctions following injury, and 3) implementing Team-Based Learning in a physical therapy curriculum, along with evaluating the outcomes both in terms of success in the DPT program, in passing the PT licensure exams, and in becoming extraordinary physical therapy professionals. Beven, and her husband Donald, have three wonderfully active boys, Aiden, Kaelen and Kyle. Her number one hobby is playing competitive tennis.
