Biography
Herbert Kotzab studied business administration with a focus on marketing and management at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (WU) from 1984 to 1991. He began his academic career at the Department of Retailing and Marketing at WU, where he received his doctorate in 1996 with a thesis entitled "New Concepts in Distribution Logistics in Retailing" and his habilitation in 2002. From 1999 to 2011, he played a key role in the Department of Operations Management at the Copenhagen Business School. From 2011 to 2022, Herbert Kotzab held the Chair of Logistics Management at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics at the University of Bremen.
Since 2023, Herbert Kotzab is a Professor of Transportation and Logistics in the Department of Marketing and Logistics in the Coggin College of Business at the University of North Florida. In addition to directing the Crowley Center for Transportation and Logistics, he teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses in purchasing management and strategic sourcing. Recognized for his research contributions, Kotzab has received several Best Paper Awards and the Kardinal Innitzer Scholarship. His teaching excellence was recognized with the FUHU Best Teacher Award at Copenhagen Business School. At UNF, Herbert Kotzab continues his research in retail and consumer goods logistics, focusing on institutional economics to improve logistics and supply chain management, with a special emphasis on sustainable supply chain systems.
On a personal note, Herbert Kotzab is a native of Vienna, Austria and despite his many years abroad, he keeps up with his green and white soccer club.
