Biography

Dr. Spaulding-Givens earned a Ph.D. in Social Work from Florida State University, where she also received a Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in Social Policy and Administration. Prior to joining the UNF Faculty, Dr. Spaulding-Givens served as the Operations Coordinator of Florida Self-Directed Care, a public mental health program for adults diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness.

Dr. Spaulding-Givens’ research agenda broadly examines client-centered mental health service delivery. Her teaching interests range from the history and analysis of social welfare policy to social work practice, administration, and program evaluation. She routinely teaches Social Welfare Policy, Social Work Communication, Social Work Practice with Organizations and Communities, and Inside the Asylum.

Currently. Dr. Spaulding-Givens is an Associate Professor and the Chair of the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work.  She has been a member of the UNF faculty since 2006 and served as the inaugural BSW Program Director.
