Research interests
Dr. Niu joined UNF in July 2025 as the RF-SMART and Morales Family Director of the School of Computing (SoC). He is a Senior Member of IEEE, and serves on the editorial board of the Requirements Engineering Journal and that of the IEEE Transactions on Multimedia. He was the Lead Program Co-Chair of the IEEE International Conference on Information Reuse and Integration (IRI 2021-2025), General Co-Chair of the International Workshop on Software and Systems Traceability (SST 2023), Program Committe Chair of SST 2019, General Chair of the International Conference on Software and Systems Reuse (ICSR 2019), and General Chair of the International Workshop on Traceability in Emerging Forms of Software Engineering (TEFSE 2013). He also served as the ACM SIGSOFT CAPS Coordinator from 2017 to 2025. Before joining UNF, he was a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati, a tenure-track Assistant Professor at Mississippi State University, and a software developer at Lenovo. He spent his sabbatical with Danfoss as a software consultant, as well as with U.S. EPA as a special government employee (SGE).
