Abstract

Magnetic properties and the metal–insulator transition in CuIr2S4−xSex with x=0.0, 0.1, and 4.0 were investigated. CuIr2S3.9Se0.1 exhibits a transition from paramagnetism (M/H=+1.3×10−7 emu/g G) at higher temperatures to diamagnetism (M/H=−1.5×10−7 emu/g G) at lower temperatures and exhibits hysteresis on heating and cooling. The transition on warming in CuIr2S3.9Se0.1 occurs at a lower temperature (200 K) than in CuIr2S4 (218 K) and is not observed in CuIr2Se4.
