Abstract

Three months ago, I wrote in this space about the importance of advocating with legislators and policy makers to advance our profession and improve the public's health. I am proud to say we are seeing the fruits of our labors. In December, Congress passed two pieces of legislation that were top priorities of ADA—the Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act and the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act. Rarely, if ever, have two bills of such importance to ADA and the nation's health been voted on during the same Congressional session, let alone during the span of less than 1 week. But they were—and ADA members can be proud of the part our Association played in passing these bills.
