Tides of Elysian for Marimba + Vibraphone Duo

Andrea Venet (Composer)

Research output: Non-textual formatMusical scores and notations

Abstract

Elysian means relating to, or characteristic of heaven or paradise; blissful. The opening motive in the vibraphone becomes a refrain that appears throughout the work, and a pervasive melodic line intertwined within the piece.

The recurrence of this throughout, or "tides", provide a somber, yet beautiful reminder of the unknown sublime, such as heavenly realms. Written in 2020 during many dark events, I found myself contemplating Heaven as a welcome place. The piece was written for, and premiered by the Escape Ten duo.
