Biography

My research program aims to understand the effects of environmental change on the functioning of ecological communities and food webs through laboratory and field-based experimentation as well as observation of nature. My current research focuses on the responses of American alligators to environmental change and how shifts in their behaviors can affect whole ecosystems. I also study arthropods in more controlled settings. My work is especially important and timely because of the many ways we humans are impacting the environment and in numerous cases damaging the natural systems on which we rely. My goal is for my research to help inform long-term regional planning and development initiatives, thereby limiting potential negative impacts on the environment and ourselves.
