About

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of North Florida, Fulbright Scholar to Sri Lanka, Research Fellow of the Earth System Governance Projectand Core Team Member of the Global Network for the Study of Human Rights and the Environment. At UNF, I received the 2016-17 Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award and 2018-19 Outstanding International Leadership Award. In 2020, I was named the Green Teacher of the Year (Higher Education) by the U.S. Green Building Council Florida, Northeast Florida Region. My research, which focuses on environmental politics, rights, and technology, has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals and cited in several UN reports: UNDP (2014), UNDP (2015), UNEP (2017), UNGA (2018), UNEP (2019), UNESCAP (2019), and UN (2019). I am the author of The Global Emergence of Constitutional Environmental Rights (Routledge 2017) and Rights for Robots: Artificial Intelligence, Animal and Environmental Law (Routledge 2020). I hold a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Florida, an M.A. in Climate and Society from Columbia University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from UC Irvine. I run Enviro Rights Map, a Google Maps-based catalogue of environmental rights around the world.
