Resumen

Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) can affect several age groups, prevailing between 20 and 45 years old, and has been frequently manifesting in children and adolescents. This study aimed to verify the prevalence of TMD symptoms in children, adults and the elderly. Mothers of 90 children aged 3-7 years old (Group I), 107 university students aged 17-38 years old (Group II) and 105 individuals aged 50-85 years old (Group III) were interviewed. Symptoms of dysfunction were prevalent in all groups, being more frequent in Group III. It was possible to suggest that the presence of TMD symptoms was more frequent in the elderly.
